A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field
Understanding of embedded C/C++ programming and microcontroller-based design
Familiarity with common communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, etc.)
Curiosity and interest in electronics---especially embedded systems and control hardware, interest in SMPS / power electronics is a bonus
Bonus points for experience with PCB tools (e.g., Cadence, KiCad, Altium) or FreeRTOS
Ability to read datasheets, troubleshoot electronics, and work with lab tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers

What You'll Do
In this role, you'll contribute to the design and development of electronics for lighting systems used in some of the world's most demanding environments---including explosive (Ex) areas in oil and gas. You'll gain valuable experience working alongside senior engineers while building real-world solutions that make a difference.
Assist in developing and programming embedded microcontroller systems (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, AVR) for lighting control and automation
Contribute to schematic capture, PCB design, and testing of electronics prototypes
Support integration of sensors, communication modules (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, BLE), and peripherals
Participate in debugging and verification of hardware and firmware
Help document design processes, firmware versions, and system configurations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including purchasing, production, and mechanical engineering
Continuously improve quality and performance in our electronics products

Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for power electronics, AC-DC conversion, and robust circuit design? Aluwave AB in Gothenburg / Barel AS in Kirkenes is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the development of advanced lighting systems used in some of the world’s most demanding environments.
What You Bring
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
5+ years of experience in electronics design, with strong expertise in power supply design and AC-DC conversion, or a relevant technical degree with 15+ years of work experience in a related field.
Solid knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, including safety isolation and EMI mitigation
Hands-on experience with SMPS topologies and magnetic components (transformers, inductors)
Proficiency with PCB design tools (e.g.,Cadence, Altium, Siemens EDA, KiCad, Eagle) and simulation software (e.g., Spice)
Familiarity with embedded systems or microcontroller integration is a plus
Strong understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and production support
Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative in both design and troubleshooting
Excellent communication skills in English (and Norwegian or Swedish, if applicable)

What You'll Do

As part of our growing engineering team, you'll help define the next generation of high-efficiency, highly reliable power solutions while mentoring junior colleagues and collaborating across disciplines.
Lead the design and development of AC-DC power supplies, LED drivers, and control circuits for industrial lighting products
Design and validate switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) using topologies such as flyback, buck, boost, or PFC
Develop and review schematics, perform component selection, and oversee PCB layout
Ensure compliance with safety, EMC, thermal, and regulatory requirements (IEC, UL, CE, RoHS, etc.)
Perform in-depth circuit analysis, simulation (e.g., SPICE), and hands-on lab validation
Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and optical engineers to create reliable and manufacturable designs
Support and troubleshoot prototypes and production issues
Maintain and organize engineering documentation, test procedures, and product data
Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians
Interface with suppliers for critical component sourcing and technical evaluation
Contribute to continuous improvement in design quality and development efficiency
