The Role  You will be central in building out Soundtrack's data products, supporting an insights-led culture throughout the company and a personalised experience for our users. You will be a part of the Analytics Engineering team with the mission to collect raw data from backend systems and databases, user interaction events and other sources and transform it into well-defined, high-quality, accessible datasets and metrics, and expose them through self-service dashboards, APIs for our product and wherever Soundtrack can make valuable use of it. You will be working tightly with our Analysts in defining the data needs of the company and fulfilling them. You will also regularly work with other development teams to coordinate how data is produced and transformed, and with consumers throughout all functions; Product Development, Growth, Marketing, Sales, Revenue, Finance and Legal.  Soundtrack’s technology stack is based on Google Cloud Platform. The team currently works mostly with SQL, BigQuery, Scala, Python, Airflow, Google Dataflow, dbt, SQLMesh, Malloy, Tableau, Mixpanel and Terraform, together with other open-source and third-party services as needed, and you’ll be able to influence how we choose the right tool for the job going forward. You will be working a lot with defining, modelling, transforming, documenting and exposing data in a reliable, reusable and scalable way. Responsibilities Designing, defining, developing and maintaining critical datasets and metrics, and the pipelines that collect, transform and expose data for them Working with data across all domains of Soundtrack; product, content, marketing, business and finance Ensuring the reliability, accuracy, accessibility and cost-efficiency of both data and systems Contributing to the team’s vision, strategy and agenda Supporting the development of the team as a whole by sharing knowledge and helping each other grow About you You combine professionalism and precision with a friendly, pragmatic attitude. The Role We are looking for an experienced backend engineer with a strong background in functional programming, for our Play & Control team.  You will play a key part in evolving and deploying our next-generation playback system, the backbone that ensures music plays seamlessly across platforms, devices, and integrations.  The team owns the playback experience across all of our platforms. We make the music flow, from the cloud to speakers, through our apps and partner integrations. Our technology powers playback for mobile and desktop clients, our own hardware, and various connected devices through SDKs and APIs. Everyone in the team works across the stack, to ensure a smooth and stable music experience everywhere. You will be joining at an exciting time, our new playback architecture is being rolled out, and you’ll play a central role in shaping how it operates across all platforms. Responsibilities In this role, you will: Design, build, and refine backend services that power music playback across diverse clients and environments Contribute to the rollout of our next-generation playback control architecture Collaborate with our partners (e.g., Sonos and other integrations) Develop our cloud-based audio streaming platform Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance in a distributed environment Influence a technical direction for systems written in Scala, Go, Rust, and C++ About You Just like us, you love music.
